Dubai health authorities have kickstarted its COVID-19 vaccination campaign. Under this initiative, the Dubai Health Authority will be providing the Pfizer- BioNTech vaccination, which has recently been approved for use by the US Food and Drug Administration and registered by the UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention.

Among the first individuals to receive the Pfizer- BioNTech vaccine in Dubai include senior citizen Ali Salem Ali Aladidi and Shamaa Saif Rashid Alalili; Asha Susan Philip – a nurse at DHA; Asif Khan Fazle Subhan – a driver at Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and Adel Hassan Shukralla from Dubai Police.

The vaccine has reportedly been also approved by the UAE Fatwa Council as there were concerns over their halal status.

The success of Dubai’s comprehensive measures to combat the virus has led to Dubai being one of the safest cities in the world. The emirate has undertaken critical preventive measures including rigorous implementation of monitoring, surveillance and quarantine protocols, and taking vital proactive steps such as increasing the COVID-19 PCR testing capacity to more than 80,000 tests per day.

After Sinopharm vaccine which was approved last month, Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine is the second vaccine which is being made available for the citizens in the UAE.
