Bahrain moves ahead in the human development index

Bahrain has successfully improved its position on the global human development index by moving three levels up. Now it grabs the 42nd position globally in 2019 than its last level, which was 45th in 2018.  

As per the latest report published by the United Nations development programme (UNDP), Bahrain has been able to maintain its position in the ‘very high human development’ category of the index, based on its basic income, education and health parameters.

The Kingdom has also been able to increase its Gross National Income (GNI) per capita for both males and females as well as its labour force participation rate for women.  

 As per the report, Bahrain has shown an exemplary development by moving six positions up between 2014 to 2019, making it the Arab country with the second-largest upwards leap in terms of the HDI ranking.  

 As quoted in the media, Mohamed bin Ibrahim Al Mutawa, Minister of Cabinet Affairs has said, “it is gratifying to note that the Kingdom of Bahrain continues to obtain high scores in the Human Development Index, providing free education, ensuring equal opportunities for men and women, improving health care, and raising life expectancy, all in line with the SDGs.”
